Be Godly Now!
We all have deadlines in life – there’s always something with a due date. You have to take out the trash before it’s due to smell; to turn in an assignment before you get an F; you need to report back to your boss before you place your job in jeopardy. These are all very serious matters – nobody can afford to lose their job, or flunk out of class, or deal with a stinky home! But in the grander scheme of things, sometimes the emphasis can be misplaced.
People have a tendency to put off what may not seem to have an immediate consequence, and I fear spiritual things may sometimes fall under this category. Maybe we think that, “I will be godlier as I get older”, or we get the reasoning that, “God will forgive me for the things I do anyway.” Friends, this is a spiritual ‘putting off’ of what you should do now, and it is much more important than any job, class, or smelly trashcan.
Did you know that you have a spiritual deadline? A due date in which you have to answer all that you have done in this life? Both good and bad. Paul, the Apostle of Jesus, has let us know this a number of times (2 Cor. 5.10; Rom. 14.12)! He tells us this not on account of his own knowledge, but from what our Lord has said (Jn. 12.48). The words of Jesus will judge your very deeds today! Don’t wait till later. Train yourself in godliness now (1 Tim 4.8)!
